Latin Mass Update #66

Posted on Updated on

SALVETE FRIENDS!

THE MASS for St. Michael’s Day, the Feast of the Guardian Angels, and the First Friday and First Saturday devotions are the perfect opportunities to invite others who have never experienced the Latin Mass – or Catholicism.   To invite others, there are PDF flyers below the listings, which you can share on social media, email, or print and photocopy.  If one time or place doesn’t work for you, see the Locations page for alternatives. Don’t forget to GO TO CONFESSION!

If you love the Latin Mass and want it to grow, be sure to go to Mass that day – even if you’re new to it yourself – and second, don’t miss a chance to bring someone new to Latin Mass.  GO TO CONFESSION BEFORE HAND, AND LIVE THE CATHOLIC FAITH ALL WEEK LONG.

For helpful tips and resources, please see our “First Time at a Latin Mass” page. God bless you all!

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 @ 8:30 AM: Assumption All Saints Church, 344 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07304 Mass for the feast of St. Michael (Michelmas). See flyer below for details.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 @ 12:30 PM: St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church,1282 Yardville Allentown Rd, Allentown, NJ 08501 From the pastor, Fr. Michael Wallack: we will have a procession after the 12:30pm High Mass to our new Saint Michael the Archangel statue and bless it. This new statue is in honor of Saint Michael and our police, military, firefighters and first responders. May Saint Michael protect them and let them safely return home at the end of every shift.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 – MICHELMAS DAY: Novena for Our Nation enters the final 9 days, for which Fr. Richard Heilman has suggested adding the Chaplet of St. Michael to the daily Rosary.  He recently prayed this Chaplet of St. Michael with an exorcist while sprinkling blessed salt around the perimeter of his parish’s property. Another Novena to St. Michael is also available here. Thanks to the Charlotte, North Carolina Latin Mass Community, we have the following suggestions to read up on devotion to St. Michael: First, here is a Catholic Exchange article one of their subscribers passed along.  The good folks in Charlotte also recommended this Fisheaters article for some great history and some interesting recipes for St. Michael’s feast day.

If this is your first time, you will be paired with an experienced volunteer. Thank you in advance for your generous assistance.

The Latin Mass location Map has been updated with the NEW CENTRAL JERSEY LOCATION of the WEEKLY LATIN MASS with Fr. Damian Breen at Corpus Christi in South River. Father Breen is offering a Low Mass every Wednesday at 6:15 pm. Confessions will be heard from 5 to 5:30 pm , and the Novena to the Holy Spirit will be offered at about 5:45 pm. In addition, Father will offer Low Mass of the Sacred Heart at 7 pm every First Friday (with Exposition beginning at 3pm until the 6:45pm Benediction; confessions heard from 6pm to 6:30pm) and a Low Mass of the Immaculate Heart at noon every First Saturday.  (Confessions heard from 11-11:30am.)

Shrine Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in Raritan continues with its fifth First Saturday Missa Cantatas for the Immaculate Heart of Mary in August – please see calendar for the beautiful selection of music the choir will be offering.

Also, the  Latin Mass with Fr. John Perricone in JERSEY CITY has been MOVED AGAIN due to flood damage at the convent chapel. Mass is now 8:30 am at Assumption Church, 344 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City. To receive the most up-to-date information on the Jersey City Latin Mass Community, please join their mailing list @ latinmassjc (at) gmail (dot) com.

The Latin School at St. Anthony of Padua Oratory, 1360 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange will be holding its Second Annual Latin Language Summer Intensive Course for the Traditional Roman Rite. The course will run approximately 3 weeks. The course is a practical introduction to the Latin missal and breviary of the Traditional Roman Rite including vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. For detailed information, please email: Lorraine Harwelik at L.M.Harwelik@gmail.com. Please put “Re: Latin” in the subject line. (Note: Previous Intensive students may inquire about auditing.)

THE FEAST of OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL on Tuesday July 16 and the First Friday and First Saturday devotions are the perfect opportunities to invite others who have never experienced the Latin Mass – or Catholicism.   To invite others, there are PDF flyers below the listings, which you can share, email, or print and photocopy.

AND GO TO CONFESSION BEFORE HAND! For helpful tips and resources, please see our “First Time at a Latin Mass” page.

OPPORTUNITY FOR ACTION #1: Sponsor a Seminarian for the FSSP. Dan Marengo writes:  “Many of you know Joseph Falciano from Fr. Perricone’s retreats and theology lectures.  We are happy to report he has been accepted to the FSSP Seminary this fall,  and is in need of some financial support, as he is paying his own way through seminary. Here is the link to contribute directly to his expenses:

https://www.gofundme.com/help-a-catholic-seminarian-pay-tuition

(FYI while it is also possible to donate to the FSSP’s North American District (select the option Future Priests) or to their Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska, I don’t think either site allows your donation to be earmarked for a particular seminarian. However, it might be good to bookmark these sites as options for charitable donations and further opportunities for restoration of the Church. – Nora) Thank you for your generosity and God bless you!

OPPORTUNITY FOR ACTION #2: Sponsor a copy of Treasure and Tradition for someone you’ve never met for ONLY $5! St. Augustine Academy Press is currently assembling a grassroots effort to distribute copies of their beautiful introduction to the Latin Mass, Treasure and Tradition in English, Spanish and Portuguese during the Pan-Amazon Synod in October (details why here) , but they need our help to make this a reality. To help, St. Augustine Academy Press first of all asks that you pray for the success of this endeavor.  If you would like to volunteer to distribute copies in Rome during the Synod, or can help with planning or logistics, please contact Lisa Bergman here. To sponsor the cost of the copies they will be distributing, you can simply add this “product” to your cart for each $5 increment you’d like to donate.  The best part: if you donate at least $25 (i.e. add 5 of these $5 donations to your cart), you automatically get $5 off when you order your own copy. So by sponsoring a stranger’s copy, you can save money on your own!  Thank you for your generosity and God bless you!

OPPORTUNITY FOR ACTION #3: “The first collection at the Jersey City Latin Mass will be to benefit Magnificat House, a small non-profit organization, inspired by Catholic principles of solidarity and subsidiarity, that offers a home to low-income, including special-needs, adult women. Magnificat rents vacant convents from the Church in Jersey City (St. Paul the Apostle and Our Lady of Sorrows-and both homes being placed under the patronage of the Mother of God) and makes excellent use of them to provide a safe, dignified home. The rent collected from the over 50 residents (most are on Social Security, some work) covers about 3/4 of  expenses; the remainder is provided by generous supporters. Since many of the residents contribute to the home by cooking and cleaning in return for rent reduction, Magnificat is able to operate frugally and keep the rent very low. This allows the women to maintain their dignity. Matt Laracy who is sometimes at the Latin Mass and whose office is on the first floor of the convent, will be happy to give you more information and provide a tour of the home. Magnificat has also been an active supporter of   welcoming the Latin Mass to the chapel which is located within its house.  Your support in the way of  prayers and contributions are welcome! Visit magnificathome(dot)org for more information. Checks may be made payable to “Magnificat Home.”

ATTENTION Residents of Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, and Warren county, PLEASE contact me via this web site regarding your interest in forming an Association of the Faithful to support the propagation of the Latin Mass and the Sacraments of the Catholic Church in accordance with Summorum Pontificum. Thank you in advance for your prompt response!

SALVETE FRIENDS!

Thanks to your donations for vestments and training at the FSSP Seminary in Nebraska, Fr. Damian Breen will now offer the Traditional Latin Mass at Corpus Christi Parish in South River NJ, beginning this Friday at 7 pm for the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart! He will also offer the TLM weekly on Wednesday evenings and on First Fridays and First Saturdays as well. Deo gratias!

OPPORTUNITY FOR ACTION: Sponsor a Seminarian for the FSSP.

OPPORTUNITY FOR ACTION: Sponsor a copy of Treasure and Tradition for someone you’ve never met for ONLY $5!

OPPORTUNITY FOR ACTION: “The first collection at the Jersey City Latin Mass will be to benefit Magnificat House, a small non-profit organization, inspired by Catholic principles of solidarity and subsidiarity, that offers a home to low-income, including special-needs, adult women.

The time for the Latin Mass in JERSEY CITY has been moved to 9:15 AM and the LOCATION is now at OUR LADY OF THE SIGN CONVENT CHAPEL of ST. PAUL’S PARISH,  located at the BACK of 20 GREENVILLE AVENUE, JERSEY CITY. To receive the most up-to-date information on the Jersey City Latin Mass Community, please join their mailing list @ latinmassjc (at) gmail (dot) com.

THE FEAST of the SACRED HEART this Friday, June 28 and First Friday and First Saturday devotions are the perfect opportunities to invite others who have never experienced the Latin Mass – or Catholicism.   To invite others, there are PDF flyers below the listings, which you can share, email, or print and photocopy.  If one time or place doesn’t work for you, see the Locations page for alternatives. Don’t forget – GO TO CONFESSION!

Whatever you do:  first, get yourself to Mass that day – even if you’re the “new guy” yourself – and second, don’t miss a chance to bring someone new to Latin Mass.  AND GO TO CONFESSION BEFORE HAND! For helpful resources, please see our “First Time at a Latin Mass” page.
